Sceptre barite from Four-la-Brouque (Auvergne 63)
Discover photographs of a Sceptre barite from Four-la-Brouque (Auvergne 63).
The Four-la-Brouque deposit in Auvergne is renowned for its rich deposits of barite, a mineral made up of barium sulphate. The site, typical of the region’s hydrothermal formations, features barite veins often associated with other minerals such as fluorite, galena and sphalerite. The barite extracted from Four-la-Brouque is distinguished by its purity and whiteness, making it particularly prized in the chemical and petroleum industries, notably for the manufacture of drilling muds. Although industrial mining has ceased, the deposit remains a benchmark for mineral collectors due to the exceptional crystalline quality of the specimens found there.
