This Sunday, September 18, 2022, a tsunami warning was issued in Taiwan following the occurrence of a powerful earthquake of a magnitude of 6.9 on the Richter scale off the coast of Taiwan. The epicenter is located about 50 km north of the city of Taitung and would have a depth of 10 km (Source USGS).
The local authorities reported the destruction of a building and the derailment of a train.
The tsunami alert was quickly lifted. A monitoring of possible aftershocks is in place.
