The earth is currently shaking in California (USA). Indeed, two powerful earthquakes have just struck this US state.
The first earthquake of magnitude 6.4 on the Richter scale on Thursday 4 July 2019 was only a precursor of the second.
The second earthquake measuring 7.1 on the Richter Scale (the largest in terms of magnitude) struck southern California at 8.30pm (local time) on Friday 5 July. According to local authorities, no casualties were reported but some material damage was noted (gas leaks, fire, road cuts…). Further aftershocks cannot be ruled out.
A priori, these two earthquakes are not directly linked to the activity of the famous San Andreas fault. California is still under the threat of the famous “Big One”, which will unfortunately arrive one day.
